For Ladies Only
The battle of the sexes still continues up to present. Today, you can still hear comments such as "It's a man's world". This is just an illustration how much the world is dominated by men, even the poker world.
Feminists would argue that they could play poker as good as the male poker players, and they have proven it by playing in the tournaments. Some, like Annie Duke, prefer to play in an open tournament, in which men and women play at the same poker table. This is their way of saying that they can play with the men, that they can even beat them at poker. Annie Duke particularly, does not play in Ladies' only events in poker. She claims that in poker, there shouldn't be a question of gender.
However, other poker players believe that having Ladies' events in poker does not discriminate women. Instead, they think that it even helps promote poker to women out there.
Why do they think so? They believe that through the Ladies' events, more women will be interested in poker. They note that one hindrance to playing poker for women is intimidation.
A large population of females out there is not confident to face male poker players at the table. This is because it is a known fact that many male poker players try to intimidate women during play.
We all know that confidence plays a big role in poker games. You cannot risk getting scared while playing poker, or other players will just bully you around, and this is what happens to some female poker women.
Therefore, to attract more women to play poker at the tournaments, we should put an end to this hostile environment. When women are playing poker against other women, they feel more comfortable, and more importantly, confident. Thus, Ladies' only poker events are great moral boosters.
This is not to say that women should just stick to women's only events. After practicing their poker play at the Ladies' event, they could move on to the open tournament. It would be an advantage to them because they now have more confidence in them.
What this article is trying to say is to prepare women to play poker before sending them to a battlefield which has long been dominated by men. You couldn't just make them play in open poker tournament and expect them to win. You first have to give them strength to hold on to.
